South Shore Coastal Hike to Sea Cliffs
Hike the amazing sea cliffs and look out over the waves!
Smell the salt air as crashing waves explode below you. The compacting of air within the cliffs creates a special surprise. Our Kauaʻi hike will take us to a promontory, where we will see impressive views of Hāʻupu Mountain, Kawelikoa Point, and deep into the Kaua’i Channel in the direction of Oʻahu (which you can see at 108 miles away on extremely clear days).
Maha’ulepu (MA·HA ule·PU) is an area rich in natural and cultural history. Learn about the epic land and sea battle that was fought and won here by the people of Kauaʻi in the 1300s, giving it the name Maha’ulepu which literally means “and falling together.”
As one of the last remaining stretches of undeveloped coastline on the South Shore, the Maha’ulepu area is still fiercely protected by locals, who recognise its unique historical significance and aesthetic value; and fear more resort development.
Our tour will include a visit to look down into nearby Makauwahi Cave Reserve to look down into Hawaii’s largest limestone cave and richest fossil site!

After the hike, you’ll have the option to snorkel at a beautiful South Shore location. This option adds approximately 2 hours to your tour duration, including time in the water, driving, and getting set up.
If you choose this option, please pack a lunch or ask your guide about a quick stop at a local spot.
For an additional fee, your guide can coordinate snorkel gear pickup and drop-off for you. Please note that fit cannot be guaranteed if you are not present to try on gear, though we will do our best based on your sizes. You are also welcome to bring your own gear if preferred.
